Senior Women’s Football at New Lambton FC
New Lambton Football Club’s Zone Football League Women’s (ZFLW) program is the senior performance pathway for women’s football at NLFC.
Established in 2026 as part of the inaugural Zone Football League Women’s competition, the program represents an exciting new chapter in the long history of women’s and girls’ football at New Lambton.
Our aim is bigger than simply putting teams on the field.
We are building a strong, sustainable and ambitious senior women’s football program – one that provides opportunities for players to develop, compete, enjoy their football and represent New Lambton with pride.
Whether you’re an experienced senior player, an emerging footballer looking to take the next step, or a younger NLFC player wondering where your football journey might eventually lead, we want New Lambton to offer a genuine pathway.
Our ZFLW Program
New Lambton entered the inaugural Zone Football League Women’s competition in 2026 with teams competing in:
Zone League Women’s First Grade
Our highest-level senior women’s team, providing players with the opportunity to compete at the top level of the Zone Football League Women’s structure.
Zone League Women’s Conference Grade
An important part of the ZFLW program, providing competitive senior football and opportunities for players to develop and push for First Grade selection.
Importantly, we don’t see these as separate teams that simply happen to wear the same shirt.
They are part of one senior women’s football program.
Players train, develop and compete within an environment designed to create opportunities for progression while building depth, connection and a strong whole-of-program culture.
A Genuine Women’s Football Pathway
NLFC wants girls joining the club as young players to be able to look ahead and see somewhere to go.
Our long-term pathway is simple:
Junior Girls → Youth Girls → All-Age Women → ZFLW Conference → ZFLW First Grade
That pathway is important.
New Lambton has hundreds of female players across the club. We want talented and committed players to know that progressing in football doesn’t necessarily mean leaving the club where they grew up.
Equally, our senior women’s program welcomes players joining New Lambton from elsewhere who want to become part of what we’re building.
The objective is to create an environment where players can find the right level of football, continue developing and earn opportunities to progress.
More Than Two Teams
The philosophy behind our women’s program is straightforward:
We aren’t interested in simply fielding teams. We want to build a program.
That means creating the structures around our players that help them develop and enjoy their football.
Our ongoing investment in the women’s program includes initiatives such as:
- dedicated coaching structures across our senior women’s teams,
- specialised goalkeeper development,
- strength, conditioning and player-development opportunities,
- GPS player performance and workload monitoring,
- improved approaches to player preparation and recovery,
- connected coaching and player-development pathways between teams,
- leadership development within the playing group, and
- opportunities for players to become involved in wider club initiatives, including NLFC’s In The Zone podcast.
We are a community football club – and we’re proud of that.
But being a community football club doesn’t mean we can’t be ambitious, innovative or provide our players with an outstanding football environment.
What We Look For
Football ability matters at ZFLW level, but it isn’t the only thing that matters.
The culture we’re building at New Lambton places a strong emphasis on:

Training attendance.
Fitness and preparation.
Coachability.
Respect.
Teamwork.
A willingness to develop.
And, importantly, how you respond when things don’t go your way.
We want good footballers.
We also want good teammates – players who train together, work for each other, accept accountability, support the people around them and take pride in representing New Lambton Football Club.
Positions within our ZFLW squads are earned through performance, development, attitude and commitment.
Player Development
Development doesn’t stop when a player reaches senior football.
NLFC wants our ZFLW environment to help players continue improving technically, tactically and physically.
That includes investing in areas that aren’t always available at community football level.
Goalkeeper Development
Specialist goalkeeper coaching forms part of our developing senior football structure, with a dedicated program focusing on areas including technique, positioning, distribution, decision-making, communication, handling and footwork.
GPS Performance Technology
NLFC is working to incorporate GPS player tracking into the ZFLW environment, allowing coaches and players to better understand distance covered, high-intensity activity, training and match workloads and recovery.
The objective isn’t technology for technology’s sake.
It’s about giving coaches better information to train smarter, manage workloads and help players perform at their best.
One Club
When a player pulls on a New Lambton ZFLW jersey, she represents much more than one team.
She represents one of Newcastle’s largest community football clubs and the hundreds of girls and women playing throughout NLFC.
Our senior players therefore have an important role within the wider club.
They are players, teammates and competitors – but they are also visible examples to the young girls coming through our junior ranks of where football can take them.
We want our youngest female players standing on the sideline at Novocastrian Park to be able to watch our ZFLW teams and think:
“One day, that could be me.”
And we want to give them a pathway that makes that possible.
Our Story Started in 2026
The 2026 season will always hold a special place in the history of New Lambton Football Club.
Thirty-four women put their hands up to represent NLFC during the inaugural season of the Zone Football League Women’s competition.
They became our first ZFLW First Grade and Conference players.
They trained through difficult conditions, represented New Lambton in the Women’s State Cup, navigated the inevitable challenges that come with establishing something completely new and, most importantly, began creating the culture for everyone who follows.
Every future player who wears a New Lambton Zone League Women’s jersey follows a pathway that group helped establish.
They were the first.
They built the foundations.
Now our job is to keep building.

New Lambton FC welcomes Expressions of Interest from players interested in joining our senior women’s football program.
We’re interested in hearing from established senior footballers, emerging players looking for an opportunity to develop, and ambitious players who want to challenge themselves in a competitive but supportive environment.
Selection into our Zone Football League Women’s squads is undertaken through our EOI, preseason and trial process.
Positions aren’t guaranteed – including for returning players.
We believe opportunities should be available, but positions should be earned.

Strong football programs need more than players.
NLFC also welcomes enquiries from people interested in becoming involved with our senior women’s program in coaching and support roles, including:
- coaches and assistant coaches,
- goalkeeper coaches,
- team managers,
- strength and conditioning personnel,
- physiotherapists and sports trainers,
- training support personnel,
- performance and player-development support, and
- other volunteers who would like to contribute to the growth of women’s football at New Lambton.
